And one of our favourite desserts is Cinnamon Buns, which we’ll be serving to those who come to cell group at our house! Here’s the recipe:
Cinnamon Buns for the Bread Machine
Dough Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup milk (coconut milk is what I use)
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 tbsp. butter
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 cups of all-purpose white flour
- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 2 1/4 tsp. active dry yeast
Melt the milk, water and butter together in a saucepan. Pour into the bottom of the bread pan. Add remaining ingredients in the order suggested by your bread maker. Set to dough cycle. When the dough cycle is complete, take the dough out of the machine, and punch it down. On a floured surface, roll into a large rectangle. Smear with 3 tbsp. of softened butter. Combine the filling ingredients and sprinkle over the entire rectangle.
Filling Ingredients:
- 3/4 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- 1/3 cup raisins
- 1/3 cup walnuts (optional)
Once the filling is spread out over the rectangle, roll it up length-wise into a long log. Pinch the seam together. Cut the log into 12 pieces. Place each cinnamon-roll cut-side down on a 9×13″ greased pan. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 30 mins.).
Preheat oven to 375F. Bake the rolls for 20-25 mins. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool for 10 mins. Make the following icing recipe and spread the icing mixture on top:
Icing Ingredients:
- 1 tbsp. flour
- 6 tbsp. milk
- 6 tbsp. butter
- 6 tbsp. honey
- pinch of salt
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
In a saucepan add a small amount of the milk to the flour then stir to make a smooth paste. Add remaining milk. Cook, stirring constantly, over medium heat until mixture boils and thickens. Cool. Cream butter using a fork, gradually adding honey and salt. Mix well. Add cooled milk mixture. Beat until light and fluffy; add vanilla. Smooth over top of cinnamon buns!

I’ve never made cinnamon buns, so I’ll have to try these sometime!
[...] knowing them really well, and I miss making things that we truly enjoy – things that are our favourites. So we decided that we want to stick with some of the recipes that we truly love, and just enjoy [...]
I wonder if I could do this without the bread machine (since I don’t have one). I’m in the mood for cinnamon buns!
