It’s Been a Week

Somehow, despite being unemployed all summer, we have kept ourselves very busy.  We’ve been to a bunch of cool places, seen so many people, and been so blessed by it all.  This trend is keeping up for the next week and a bit until we move to Kuwait.  It means that we’re kinda tired because we’re out and about a lot, but at the same time, those moments with friends and family are so wonderful!  Here are some of the things we got up to this week:

We went to the Mandarin – a Chinese buffet of amazingness.  Seriously.  This place is the buffet of your dreams.  And for me, it’s the buffet with tons of seafood and sushi, which I’m all about.

I met up with my foodie pen pal, Andrea from July at a local dessert restaurant!  It was a fun meet up, and I’m so glad we had the chance to get together.  Fun story: this was the dessert restaurant where Peter and I went on one of our first dates together!  It brought back lots of memories. :)

We met up with some other friends of ours for Thai food at this delightful restaurant.  I had a mango chicken dish and it was so delicious with the coconut rice.  Why don’t I make coconut rice more often?!

And on Saturday we went to the Canadian National Exhibition (also fondly known as “The CNE” or “The Ex”).  This is also a spot where Peter and I went prior to officially dating.  It was the summer of 2000, and we went and rode the ferris wheel together and he won be a stuffed fish (not the weird taxidermy kind…like a stuffed animal!), which I still have.  :)

Seeing these poor pigs and piglets made me so sad…and there were more animals like that.  I wanted to rescue them all and declare myself a vegetarian…we’ll see how that progresses.

I just really loved this alpaca’s hair.  It’s an inspiration to all of us.

And for lunch, we entered the magnificent Food Building where there were probably 100 different food vendors.  There was the regular stuff like hamburgers and hot dogs, but there was also tons of different stuff.  I ended up choosing Korean Tacos, which were so fabulous!!  They’re done on a sweet bun dough in the shape of a tortilla, then you choose your protein and top it with lettuce, cucumber, kimchi, onion/cilantro, green onions and some hot sauce.  SO SO SO GOOD.  You should give them at try!  Mine were from Far East Taco.  Actually, it made the Top 10 list for places to eat at the CNE.

We also saw part of a cooking demonstration by David Rocco!  He made some sort of custardy thing to top berries.  Smelled good!

Of course there were other visits sprinkled throughout the week with family members and friends, including a trip to see 2 of Peter’s sisters and a Bollywood night with some great friends.  Speaking of which, if you haven’t seen Bollywood, you NEED TO.  We LOOOOOOVE “Bride and Prejudice” and we saw “Three Idiots” this past week, which was pretty stellar.  Give them both a try!

AND, the weekend isn’t over yet!!  We have at least one more thing planned for this weekend, and some fun stuff for this coming week, so all in all our last week and a half is going to fly by…
